Stage: Active & Growing
African Alliance for Food Security and Agribusiness (AAFSA)
A digital extension ecosystem for agripreneurs across Africa.
AAFSA is a network ecosystem established by AgroXchange, designed to accelerate growth for practising agripreneurs in Africa by leveraging a data-driven, evidence-based and knowledge approach to agriculture. AAFSA empowers MSMEs (agripreneurs) to acquire technical capacity and business mentorship — including software licenses — required to help farmers achieve increased yield per hectare and incomes, at low cost.
- Low-cost access to precision agriculture software
- Earth observation data for crop health monitoring
- Field data collection tools and mobile applications
- Business mentorship and entrepreneurship support
- Knowledge exchange on data-driven crop production
- Community of Practice (COP) for digital agripreneurs
- Designed for youth and women agripreneurs in Africa

Stage: Pre-Farming
Crop Farming Pre-Investment Portal
Assess viability before you invest.
Our pre-investment portal gives prospective farmers and agricultural investors an evidence-based assessment of any plot of land — evaluating soil suitability, optimal crop types, water availability, flood risk, and arable area — before a single investment decision is made.
- Soil suitability and crop viability assessment
- Nutrient composition profiling
- Water resource and irrigation analysis
- Flood risk modelling
- Arable land quantification
- GPS farm boundary mapping

Agroxchange API
Our API enables seamless integration of Agroxchange crop intelligence data into third-party platforms, financial systems, and agritech applications. Multilingual output in English, French, Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo.
Crop Monitoring Operational Model
How the Platform Works — Step by Step
Farmer Profiling & Registration
Field enumerators collect and store farmer identification, photographs, and farm profile data in the Agroxchange system.
Farm Boundary Measurement
The farmer's plot is measured and mapped using GPS via the Agroxchange mobile application, creating a precise digital farm boundary.
Data Upload to Platform
Farm boundary data is uploaded to the Agroxchange Crop Monitoring Platform, activating satellite-based monitoring for the registered farm.
Satellite Monitoring & Advisory Delivery
The platform continuously processes multispectral satellite images. Farmers receive crop health advisories and anomaly alerts via SMS in their local language.
Science Behind the Platform
Vegetation Indices Explained
We use four scientifically validated vegetation indices to assess crop health and guide farm management decisions.
Normalised Difference Vegetation Index
What It Measures
Overall vegetation health and density, calculated from the differential reflectance and absorption of solar radiation at near-infrared and red wavelengths.
Why It Matters
NDVI identifies underperforming zones at any growth stage. Areas with abnormally low NDVI values signal potential pest infestations or disease outbreaks; abnormally high values may indicate weed competition. Early identification allows timely intervention to protect yield.
Normalised Difference Red-Edge Index
What It Measures
Photosynthetic activity and nitrogen concentration in plant leaves, particularly effective during the mid-to-late growing season.
Why It Matters
NDRE detects suppressed or ageing vegetation and is used to identify plant diseases that may not yet be visible to the naked eye. It also supports precise harvest timing decisions, helping farmers maximise quality and yield.
Modified Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index
What It Measures
Vegetation presence in early crop growth stages, minimising the interference of bare soil on vegetation mapping.
Why It Matters
MSAVI is especially valuable at crop emergence, when bare soil dominates the field. It enables early-stage variable-rate fertiliser application maps, allowing targeted nutrient input exactly where crops need it most.
Red-Edge Chlorophyll Index
What It Measures
Chlorophyll content in plant leaves — directly correlated with nitrogen levels and overall plant vigour.
Why It Matters
ReCI pinpoints areas of the field where yellowing or leaf fading indicates nitrogen deficiency. These zones can be targeted for supplementary fertiliser application, improving uniformity across the farm and preventing yield loss from nutrient stress.

Products — Frequently Asked Questions
Getting started takes four simple steps: (1) Download the mobile app (iOS or Android) and enable GPS. (2) Create an account. (3) Visit your farm and map the boundary using the app — it works offline and syncs when online. (4) Log in to the web platform to begin monitoring. The platform immediately begins processing multispectral satellite imagery for your registered farm.
The African Alliance for Food Security and Agribusiness (AAFSA) is a digital extension ecosystem and Community of Practice established by AgroXchange. It is designed to empower agripreneurs across Africa with low-cost access to precision agriculture software, earth observation data, field tools, mentorship, and business development resources. The platform uses four key vegetation indices derived from multispectral satellite imagery: NDVI (vegetation health and density), NDRE (nitrogen concentration and photosynthetic activity), MSAVI (early-stage emergence minimising soil interference), and ReCI (chlorophyll content and plant vigour). Together they provide a comprehensive picture of farm performance at field level.
Subscribers benefit from: accurate daily weather forecasts (14-day forecast + 5-year historical archive); early warning alerts via SMS in local languages; precision fertiliser, pesticide, and insecticide application maps; and yield forecasting for marketing and financial planning.
